Philosophy

Pine Creek Ranch is the most comprehensive experiential program and campus in the industry, specializing in the treatment of deviant sexual behavior. Over fifteen years of experience have taught the founders of Pine Creek Ranch that memories, experiences and traditions shape lives. Our experiential focus permeates throughout our therapy, residential and academic programs which are intricately interwoven to create a unique therapeutic environment.

Experiential therapy, as many students experience in wilderness programs, creates a powerful and intense opportunity for staff and students to work side by side. Together relationships are formed, progress is made, and memories of a lifetime are created.

What is Experiential Therapy?
Experiential therapy taps into the thinking, emotions and senses of the student to help them internalize what they learn through the experience. It’s more than 50 minutes in an office. Experiential therapy includes sights, smells, sounds and touch. The ranch has 10 acres of opportunities to provide a host of experiential activities for the students.

“What I hear I forget, what I see I remember, what I do I understand.” Confucius

Many programs have experiential activities, however Pine Creek Ranch is a comprehensive program, integrating clinical and real life experience.

  • Feeder Calves (taking care of a newborn calf)
  • Equine Therapy
  • Vegetable Garden
  • Community Service (working with handicapped children, helping at homeless shelter, and other “Forget About Me” projects)
  • Life Skills/Goal Setting/Daily Planners
  • Pride in surroundings (House chores, weeding and planting flowerbeds)
  • Various “Off Campus” activities (hiking, biking, running, camping, trips, etc)
  • Academic Field Trips (Fridays)

Every experience at Pine Creek Ranch will be educational as well as therapeutic. Daily activities at Pine Creek Ranch balance difficult emotional work with sometimes-fun experiential learning, but always in a purposeful and supportive environment.

“When I first came into the program I was angry that I had to be here for my inappropriate behaviors. I didn’t care about all of the people that I hurt from my actions. Then about two months into the program, I started to realize how much I took my family for granted and I wish I wouldn’t have ever hurt my family in the many ways that I did.”
